The USDA’s gorgeous pamphlet on bees “Bee Basics (PDF). It’s an educational piece on pollination, bee identification, and things you can do to help save bees. Btw, I’m head over heals for bees. I couldn’t believe it when I saw Michelle Obama’s bee hive on the lawn of the White House last weekend. Plenty to read about bees and climate change, HERE.

    I don’t eat shrimp. Ever. Here’s why:

2 student teams, 2 innovative video reports on shrimp farming — Pace U. on best practices and a prospect for shrimp farmed with the planet in mind and Univ. of British Columbia on pollution, land and water problems in Thai shrimp industry.

On today’s Fresh Air, how industrial farming destroyed the tasty tomato…and why we’re partially responsible, says Barry Estabrook: “It’s the price we pay for insisting we have food out of season and not local. We foodies and people in the sustainable food movement chant these mantras ‘local, seasonable, organic, fair-trade, sustainable’ and they almost become meaningless because they’re said so often and you see them in so many places. If you strip all those away, they do mean something, and what they mean is that you end up with something like a Florida tomato in the winter — which is tasteless.”
